Dweller Electronics, as a festival, occurs annually in the last week of February as a culmination event with respect to Black History Month. This Friday and Saturday, they take over all three rooms of 233 with a formidable lineup spanning genres. Príncipe Discos, one of the most interesting labels and movements in international club music, presents in The Sound Room. The label is an output for the musical rhythms of the African diaspora around Lisbon, and its artists are some of the most revered in global underground dance. One of the first on the label, DJ Marfox pushes Batida, a frenetic style of Afro-Portuguese dance akin to reggaeton, grime, baile funk, and footwork with mesmerizing groove, while DJ Firmeza's style is fast and relentless, inducing trance through the heavy use of hard-hitting percussion. Nídia traverses a broader emotional territory. One of the youngest and one of the only women in the Príncipe sonic universe, the producer’s use of synths and raw beats, evoking the sounds of Jersey Club and baile funk, have made her one of the most prolific. JAGU4R opens The Atrium with a blistering, bass-driven blend of experimental hard dance, techno, and global club sounds. They are a key force in Atlanta’s underground, known for pushing boundary-breaking sounds that channel heat, pressure, and catharsis for the real dancers. A stalwart of dance music in the US since the 2010s, Leonce's deep-thinking, critical lens on dance informs his uncompromising blend of experimental electronica, vogue beats, New Orleans bounce, and Southern energy. His productions subvert expectations of genre and rely on ambitious improvisation and quickness. A self-taught vinylist with an all-embracing approach to music, Ge-ology finds unpredictable commonalities between psychedelic rock, dub and boogie that work into his dancefloor strategy just as well as a four-on-the-floor dance record. - Public Records aims to provide a safer space.
