City Jamz: UK Garage party series in Lisbon. , ‘Tina Moore - Never Gonna Let You Go’, ‘MJ Cole - Crazy Love’ ou ‘DJ Luck & MC Neat - A Little Bit of Luck’. —— (EN) Unknown yet deeply loved, UK Garage is a timeless genre. We often find ourselves dancing to it on the dancefloor, even if you’re not exactly sure what it is. UK Garage is one of the foundations of early 90s electronic music and remains a major source of inspiration for today’s electronic producers and DJs. In simple terms, UK Garage was the way British producers and DJs interpreted House music, which came from the Black community across the Atlantic - especially from the iconic New York club Paradise Garage. A kind of mutated form of London House music, played faster, with broken beats and heavier basslines, featuring MCs on the mic and elements of Dub-Reggae introduced by the British Jamaican community. Tracks like the classics “24 Hour Experience - Together”, “Antonio - I’ll Take You There” and “Smokin’ Beats - Dreams” are just a few examples of this early mutation from House into UK Garage. UK Garage reached its mainstream peak in the late 90s/early 00s with the introduction of various R&B and Pop elements and remixes from that era, such as “Monsta Boy - Sorry!”, “Tina Moore - Never Gonna Let You Go”, “MJ Cole - Crazy Love” and “DJ Luck & MC Neat - A Little Bit of Luck”. At this point, Garage was the dominant sound on British radio and charts. Beyond that, the genre’s importance in the underground scene has endured to this day, through constant mutation and reinvention. UK Garage ultimately became the seed for more recent styles such as Grime, Dubstep, UK Funky and UK Bass.
