On Friday the 13th, acid reigns supreme in BASEMENT: Dr. Rubinstein headlines alongside Mike Servito and Rose Kourts. For the last decade, Rubinstein has been a beloved force for chaotic good in the underground. A raver at heart, Rubinstein has displayed a singular capacity to intuit exactly what the dancefloor needs, steering her sets into the dark, euphoric heart of the night with complete conviction. This is reflected in her productions; her recent “Rubi’s Acid Spa” and “Take This Pill” are instant-classic entries into the acid techno canon, bristling with raw power and searing 303 leads. Mike Servito needs no introduction. One of NY’s essential voices, Servito’s decades of service behind the decks have given the world one of the best runs since the advent of DJing. Rooted in the essential sounds of Detroit, Chicago and the iconic midwest rave underground, Servito fuses every era of jacking, acid-laced and sleazy dance into a unified whole. Rose Kourts completes the lineup. An unmissable name in NY over the last five years, Rose Kourts is an artist whose elastic range touches both on thundering weight and soaring effervescence. Hewing close to the visionary futurism that birthed techno, Rose Kourts’ sets are liberatory, expansive journeys delivered with an unerring sensibility. Jen Cardini brings their Nightclubbing series to STUDIO. Describing it as “a declaration of love for the dancefloor,” Cardini’s curation extends the core queer legacies that have defined dance music since its birth. Cardini’s own sets are joyous explosions of color, heavy on bombastic house. Informed by the unrestrained emotional expressivity of disco as well as the raw funk of electro, the thundering percussive attack of ballroom and coursing, groovy club sounds from across the globe, Cardini weaves a thrilling tapestry. Maara makes her debut. The Ancient Records founder harnesses a bold intimacy; in her own words, Maara’s discography “celebrates queerness with its hot, euphoric energy. “ Her recent “The Chase” EP is the platonic ideal of a dark, lurid ‘90s club scene. Michael Cignarale returns to the room. Few artists evoke the essence of the diva quite like Cignarale. The Medusa resident is riding high after the release of “Turn My Body Out,” a vocal-led anthem worthy of any era. ■ No photos or videos ■ Ticket purchase does not guarantee entrance ■ No phone use on the dancefloor ■ The dance floor is for dancing, not conversation ■ No glowing/flashing clothes or items ■ Respect other people's space, no shuffling ■ Consent is mandatory ■ Zero tolerance for racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, ableism or any form of discrimination ■ Take care of each other, alert our staff if somebody isn't feeling well ■ Violating the house rules will result in removal PLEASE REVIEW HOUSE POLICIES AT LINK BELOW
