Altær celebrates its sixth anniversary. And what a run it’s been; kicking off on day one with an undiluted vision, Altær quickly established itself as one of the key spaces for jackhammer techno of the highest order. Six years later and it’s hard to imagine the NY nightlife without it. Dutch phenom Beste Hira makes her debut for the occasion. A resident at Amsterdam’s Orphic, Hira’s immaculate originals and sprawling sets tap into techno’s darker corners, merging gritty bite with a sensual minimalism. As a producer, she draws on her years of formal education, crafting works that are impeccably balanced and musically adventurous. Manchester’s Yant extends the legacy of cold blooded northern-UK techno. Stretching the pared-back aesthetic set by luminaries like Surgeon and Ø Phase into fresh terrain, Yant’s releases on mainstays like SK_Eleven, Hardgroove and Neighborhood are essential entries for any modern devotee of serious techno. Altær founder Auspex rounds it out. Like the party, his artistic voice has never wavered since the beginning. Auspex’s sets seethe with elemental power, summoning a primeval force that transcends genre. Lisbon’s ketia steps back into STUDIO. Over the past couple years, they’ve become a consistent face in the room, while taking on a non-stop global touring schedule. Their reputation rests both on their community activism and behind-the-scenes DIY ethos as well as their music. ketia puts it best in their own words. They’re on “a crystal clear mission on bringing honesty to the table as a gateway to bliss on raving”. Kim Anh returns, channeling a past futures and cross-generational narratives of deviance and defiance. A lifelong digger, Anh’s selections wind through lost classics of the ‘80s and beyond. She locates tracks that feel like long-lost transmissions, signaling pockets of liberation and subversion across the decades. Will Jack joins.
